Wednesday 20th January

Another great day yesterday, well done! I’m really pleased to see lots of you getting outside in the fresh air and being active. It is also lovely to see some of you sharing your older brothers or sisters learning and doing things together. It seems to me that lots of you have the ‘Kindness Superpower’! Don’t forget to share your acts of kindness so that Mrs Ledingham can add it to the ‘Tree of Kindness’ at the front of the school.

Today we have the following activities:
Phonics – FS2 practising last week’s new sounds
Phonics – FS1 more oral blending
English – Stick Man. Using your stick man and family to act out activities
Maths – FS2 counting on when adding
Maths – FS1 counting 2
Well Being Wednesday – making a positivity jar

Let’s have a look at some of the things you did yesterday.

Phonics

FS2 Start by recapping your sounds, using Mr Mc or Phonics Play.

https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/resources/phase/3/flashcards-speed-trials

https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/resources/phase/3/flashcards-time-challenge

Practise blending by using a game on Phonics Play or an activity.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=b25J30UmaWU

You could make a snakes and ladders game using words from the word lists. You could include tricky words to practise them too!

FS1 Watch the video and see how many you can get.

English

I would like you to get your stick family. Think about what activities your sticks could do in different seasons. For example – would they go outside and pick flowers in the winter? Have a look at the ideas below. What do sticks do? Can you act these activities out through role-play with your stick characters? Take some photographs of them doing the activities or you could draw them and send them to me so I can see what they have been doing and share them with your friends.

Mathematics

FS2 Today we are looking at different ways to help us count on when adding: Using manipulatives to count on when adding. Parents, please encourage your child to follow how the teacher models the activity, particularly with the tens frame. It is modelled in this way to support mental arithmetic later on. Some children will use the tens frame and put their counting objects randomly on the frame. They should fill in the consecutive boxes to support counting on.

https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/using-manipulatives-to-count-on-when-adding-60vpat

Use your tens frame to help counting on to find the answers. Remember to count on and not go back to 1.

If you want to try this challenge, you will need two tens frames.

Extra challenge:

Using dice, cards or dominoes, roll or turn over two numbers. Can you find the total by counting on? Use the method which helps you; tens frame, number track, objects. Can you record the calculation? Repeat. Maybe try using a different method to help you each time.

FS1 Use Lego, pasta, raisins, sticks – anything! Can you count out 2? Don’t forget to show me what you have found.

Personal, Social and Emotional Development: Well Being Wednesday

Things are very different at the moment and sometimes we find ourselves feeling a bit fed up because we can’t do all the things we like to do, can’t see the people we would like to see or we are finding our home learning tricky. This is all very normal and it happens to everyone. The trick is finding ways to help cheer ourselves up when this happens, so today I would like you to have a go at making a Positivity Jar. If you don’t have a jar, you could use a box or any container. Decorate it however you like, make it special to you.

Follow the instructions below but I would like you to add other things too. I would like you to think of the people who are special to you. Perhaps you could draw a picture of them and add that to your jar so that when you see the picture it makes you think about them and the happy times you have together. Think also about times you have enjoyed and which have happy memories. These could be holidays, birthdays but could also be very simple, the day you played snakes and ladders with Granny or the day you went to the park with your best friend. Draw a picture and add that to your jar. You may even add a label or caption or ask an adult to help you to do that.

Have a fantastic day.

Mrs Atkinson

Tuesday 19th January 2021

Good morning! Another great day of learning from Team FS yesterday. Well done! Today we have the following lessons:

Phonics
English
Maths
Music

First let’s have a look at what you got up to yesterday.

Don’t forget to keep having a go at those fine motor activities. Here are a few more ideas.

Phonics

FS2

It is important to recap all of your sounds every day so you can use Mr Mc or go to Phonics Play to do this. Today’s game on Phonics Play is Speed Trial. The children like this as they get to choose different designs. Click start and then pick individual graphemes. Choose ‘ee’ from set 9. How many can you get in one minute? Can you beat your score?

https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/resources/phase/3/flashcards-speed-trials

Today choose the game you want to play to practise blending. You can play Buried Treasure, Picnic on Pluto or Dragons Den or you could even play all 3! Or you can choose another game you have played previously. Can you beat your score? Click on the link and choose your game. Click start and then choose Phase 3, then click on the sound +ee. This will ensure all sounds learnt so far are included.

You could try some of the following ideas:

Choose cvcc/ccvcc from the menu to practise reading sentences.

https://www.ictgames.com/mobilePage/tellATRex/index.html

These are really easy activities. You could use words containing the sounds you are practising (see the word lists on the blog previously (Friday 8th and Thursday 14th), tricky words or sounds.

Or have a go at a different activity on yesterday’s post.

FS1 We continue to think about oral blending and listening carefully for sounds in words. Play Simon Says with a grown up.
Grown ups – During the game, say some of the words in sound talk. For example “Simon says sit d-ow-n”.
An extra challenge children – can you give someone else an instruction by sound talking one of the words?

English

Read, watch or listen to the story Stick Man again, discussing the story as you go along. Can you identify sounds within the story? ‘ee’ ‘ai’ ‘ng’ etc or tricky words. The link below takes you to the book being read by Alex Scheffler.

Don’t forget to send me a picture of your stick family! Keep them safe as we will need them later in the week for some more activities.

Mathematics

FS2 I am continuing with the Oak Academy series of videos which are sequenced to build learning. You will notice that within them there is an emphasis on talking. This is such an important part of learning in Foundation Stage. If children can begin to reason and explain what they are doing, why they are doing it and how they know they are correct, it supports their learning development hugely as they get older. Please let me know your thoughts. Are these lessons working for you and your child?

Today we are thinking about ordinal numbers: Using key vocabulary associated with ordinal numbers 1st to 10th. Watch the video than have a look at the activities.

https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/using-key-vocabulary-associated-with-ordinal-numbers-1st-to-10th-6dgp4r?activity=video&step=1

Have a go at one or more of the activities below.

FS1 Number of the week is number 2. Help with the washing! Can you help pair the socks up? What else can you find in the house that comes in 2’s?

Expressive Arts: Music

I have added music again this week. I know lots of you love to join in with songs and making music. Music is a great way to support developing listening skills, rhythm and rhyme which in turn supports speaking and listening, reading and literacy among other things. Let me know if you have joined in and whether you are enjoying these music lessons.

https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/people-in-my-neighbourhood-74r64t

I hope you have a great day. Let me know how you get on. Keep those photographs and videos coming in so that I can share them with the rest of the class. Parents, please let me know how it is going. What is working for you and your child? Are the videos helpful? You can let me know via email or Evidence Me. Remember, there is no pressure to do everything, pick what works for you and your child.

Mrs Atkinson

Monday 18th January

I do hope you had a lovely weekend and took some time to do the things you enjoy. Today we have some phonics, no new sounds just practising what you have learnt so far. Then we have some maths, transferring your knowledge in to some problems. I have introduced some English today, reading a story and talking about it and finally after all that hard work, time to get active with some PE!

FS2 I have put together some packs to help with the phonics practice this week. There will be a text sent to you today with details of when you can come to school to pick it up.

First, lets have a look at your great efforts on Friday.

Phonics

FS2

There are no new sounds this week. We covered lots last week and there were lots of activities to do, so this week we are going to consolidate our learning. You can go back to the videos and watch Mr Mc again if you choose to, choose activities you enjoyed or have a go at those you didn’t manage to do. Each day I will post a selection of alternative activities for you to have a go at to practise and consolidate your learning from last week.

Parents, don’t feel you have to play different games each day. If you find a game your child likes and it can be adapted for different things eg tricky words, sounds, blending words with new sounds, then please use and repeat. Each time a new game is introduced, children need to learn to play the game which takes away from their phonics learning. The more familiar they are with how a game or activity works, the more they can concentrate on their phonics so please don’t feel that repetition is boring, it definitely isn’t!

It is important to recap all of your sounds every day so you can use Mr Mc or go to Phonics Play to do this. Click start and then pick individual graphemes. Choose ‘ee’ from set 9. How many can you get in one minute? Can you beat your score. The children are familiar with this game.

https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/resources/phase/3/flashcards-time-challenge

Today choose the game you want to play to practise blending. You can play Buried Treasure, Picnic on Pluto or Dragons Den or you could even play all 3! Can you beat your score? Click on the link and choose your game. Click start and then choose Phase 3, then click on the sound +ee. This will ensure all sounds learnt so far are included.

https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/resources/phase/3

Now practise reading sentences. Again click on the link and click start. Click next in the bottom right and click on the sound ‘ee’ to include all the sounds you have learnt so far.

https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/resources/phase/3/sentences-3

You could try some of the following ideas:

https://www.ictgames.com/mobilePage/viking/index.html

These are really easy games to play. You could use words containing the sounds you are practising (see the word lists on the blog previously (Friday 8th and Thursday 14th), tricky words or sounds.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=oIp8wKyHgnc

You could even find something to splat with eg fly swatters!

FS1 Grown ups – Oral blending in Phase 1 of phonics doesn’t require any knowledge of letters. It is the children’s listening skills that are developing before the introduction of letters. So you are saying the sounds and the children are listening and responding. It can be tricky for the children at first, so you may need to make it really obvious! Have a look at this video for examples of oral blending in action, then choose one of the games to have a go at

Mathematics

FS2 I know last week you did really well, recognising numbers and ordering them to 10 or 20 and comparing them. This week we are going to try solving some problems involving numbers by: Applying knowledge of numbers in 10 to solve mathematical problems. Have a look at the video. Remember to listen carefully and try to explain how you know.

https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/applying-knowledge-of-numbers-to-ten-to-solve-mathematical-problems-cmtkjr

Don’t feel you need to do them all. When you have had a go can you explain to someone else how you know? Can you explain how you found the answer? You could use 20 if you want a challenge. An even bigger challenge is to use any number up to 20. Let me know how you get on.

FS1 Number of the week : 2 This week we will be learning all about the number 2. Watch this video to get started.

Can you find 2?

English

Today I would like you to have a look at ‘Stick Man’ by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler. If you have the book, you could read it together. Alternatively follow the link to watch it on iplayer. Please read the notes below to support with your discussions as you read or listen to the story.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b06t09rk/stick-man

Physical Development

I’d like you to get moving today. You can either do some ‘Frozen’ yoga or be a bit more energetic with the Body Coach’s 5 minute work out.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?list=RDCMUCAxW1XT0iEJo0TYlRfn6rYQ&v=14ou-fplEi4&feature=youtu.be

Have a great day and I’m looking forward to seeing what you do.

Mrs Atkinson

Friday 15th January

What a brilliant end to a fantastic week! Well done for all your hard work and enthusiasm. There are lots of pictures showing what you got up to yesterday and I’ve even managed to post some of your videos! Have a look and then today we have some tricky word phonics for FS2 and some more funny name phonics for FS1. No new maths today, just a chance to recap what you have done this week, story time and then Fun Friday!

Phonics

FS2 Today practise your tricky words.

Follow the link to the tricky words trucks. How quickly can you read them? Click start and then phase 3. Let me know how you do.

Did you find some difficult? Follow the link to Train your Brain to help you learn them.

https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/resources/phase/3/train-your-brain-ph3

Now have a go at reading sentences. Again click on the link and click start. Click next in the bottom right and go to week 5. Click on the Tricky words to practise sentences including tricky words.

https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/resources/phase/3/sentences-3

Below are the Phase 3 Tricky Words. Can you write a sentence using tricky words and some of the phase 3 words you have been using?

You might want to have a go at a wordsearch.

FS1

Today I want you to name your vehicles! Collect up a selection of toy vehicles from around the house – car, train, van, bike and give each one a new silly name! Again, the name must start with the same sound. For example Cally Car, Tomy Train, Bertie Bike. You could even do this with the names of members of your family!

Maths

FS2 There is no video today. I want you to think about what you have done this week. What was quite tricky? What didn’t you manage to have a go at? I would like you to back and have another go at something that was tricky, something you enjoyed or try something different, perhaps play a game you didn’t play. I would also like you to have a go at practising writing numbers today. Have a look at the ideas on the blog yesterday for fun ways to practise. Don’t forget to let me see what you have done.

FS1 Watch the Numberblocks video again. Have another go at an activity you enjoyed in maths this week.

Fun Friday

Storytime

Below is a story to finish the week. I had a little friend join me, I wonder if you can spot her! She loves to snuggle on my knee whenever I sit down but today I think she quite enjoyed listening to the story.

You’ve worked hard this week so have a fun afternoon. Play a game with your family. This could be cards or a board game or make up a game together. Bake a cake, some buns, pizza or whatever is your favourite. Read your favourite book together or watch your favourite film. Go for a walk. Whatever you choose to do, put your phones and devices away and enjoy being together. Let me know what you did and how it made you feel. Enjoy!

Well done everyone for your super work this week. You are all superstars!

Have a wonderful weekend and I will see you back here on Monday.

Mrs Atkinson

.

Thursday 14th January

Happy Thursday everyone. Well, I posted this video yesterday tea time after looking at lots of your work. When I went to update the photographs later, I couldn’t believe how many more had come through. What a lot of amazing things you did yesterday! Well done to you all and a huge thank you to Mums, Dads, Grannys, Grandads and whoever else has helped you with your activities!

https://vimeo.com/500112906

Phonics

FS2 your new sound today is ‘ee’.

Today choose the game you want to play to practise blending. You can play Buried Treasure, Picnic on Pluto or Dragons Den or you could even play all 3! Can you beat your score? Click on the link and choose your game. Click start and then choose Phase 3, then click on today’s new sound +ee.

https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/resources/phase/3

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zvq9bdm/articles/zn9q92p

Now practise reading your new sound ‘ee’ in sentences. Again click on the link and click start. Click next in the bottom right and click on today’s sound ‘ee’.

https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/resources/phase/3/sentences-3

Below are lists of words using this weeks new sounds. Ask an adult (or big brother or sister) to read some words to you and have a go at writing them. Remember to listen carefully for the sounds. It may help if they say the word like a robot to begin with b-a-ng, f-ai-l. Try counting the sounds that you hear in the words. n-ai-l = 3 sounds(phonemes). Try adding sound buttons and sound sausages.

It is really important to talk about words and sounds as shown above. Also talk about where in the word digraphs are found. Some will have patterns eg at the beginning or end of words usually.

Now pick a word. Can you write a sentence with this word in it? Don’t worry about getting sounds correct if you haven’t learnt them yet, just listen and have a go. Try to remember how to write the sounds you have learnt.

FS1 Make your own alien or monster. You could draw it, make it from playdough, paint it, use junk modelling – anything! Now the fun part is to think of it’s name! It can be made up and again, very silly but it must start with the same sounds. For example; Ziggy Zoggy Zoo or Timmy Tommy Tee!

Maths

FS2 Today in maths we will be placing numbers within 10 in order. Try to pay particular attention to the language used in these videos and encourage your child to use the correct vocabulary when talking about their maths.

https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/placing-numbers-within-ten-in-order-chgk8d

https://www.topmarks.co.uk/learning-to-count/teddy-numbers

Fill in the missing numbers.

Here are some reminders of the key concepts within counting, ordering and comparing.

Some of you may complete this activity quickly and want something more challenging. Often the challenge in FS2 comes through talking and explaining rather than bigger numbers. If you are ready for this, have a look at the following activity.

Below is further information to support developing your child’s mathematical thinking.

FS1 maths. Remember the number of the week: 1. Practise writing the number 1. Use pencils, pens, chalk or paint or even make it out of playdough! You could try some of the following ideas to make your mark making more fun.

FS2 You could try some of these different ways when you are doing your phonics and writing to make it extra fun!

Knowledge and Understanding of the World: The World

We have been thinking about Winter and over the last week it has been very cold and we have had quite a bit of frost and seen quite a bit of ice outdoors. The following video thinks about Winter and explores hot and cold. It finishes with an experiment using ice cubes.

https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/to-understand-the-difference-between-hot-and-cold-6cukcr

You might want to have a go at another experiment.

Or make an ice picture.

Wednesday 13th January

Another busy day yesterday. Well done everyone!

Phonics

FS2 Begin today by practising the sounds you have learnt so far.

https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/resources/phase/3/grab-a-giggling-grapheme

Today our new sound is ‘ai’

Why not try Buried Treasure today? Follow the link. Click start and then choose Phase 3, then click on today’s new sound +ai.

https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/resources/phase/3/buried-treasure

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zvq9bdm/articles/z4xsxyc

Now have a go at reading some sentences. Again click on the link and click start. Click next in the bottom right and click on today’s sound ‘ai’.

https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/resources/phase/3/sentences-3

FS1 Watch this video

Can you make your own silly soup? Choose any sound you like, maybe the sound your name begins with. What will you put in? Remember, it can be as silly as you like!

Maths

FS2 today in maths we are exploring one less within 10.

https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/exploring-one-less-within-10-cgtk0c

Have another go at the games I posted yesterday. This time try one less. Using digit cards 1-20 or 1-10, whichever is appropriate for your child, have a go at the following game.

Or try one of the following activities thinking about one less.

FS1 Remember the number of the week this week is number 1. Watch the video.

Go on a number hunt around your house looking for the number 1. Then have another go at the counting game.

https://www.topmarks.co.uk/learning-to-count/underwater-counting

Personal, Social and Emotional Development: Well Being Wednesday

It’s the middle of the week and you have all worked really hard so far this week. It is important to take some time to look after ourselves and we will be having Wellbeing Wednesday each week to help you do this. This week I would like you to take a rest from activities on the blog and have some relaxation time. Have a go at Cosmic Yoga.

Or try some mindfulness activities.

Remember to keep sending in those photos and videos.

Enjoy your day and have fun.

Mrs Atkinson

Tuesday 12th January

What a great start to the week! Well done everyone. You worked so hard completing maths, phonics, thinking about keeping clean, making binoculars and lots more!

Phonics

FS2 Today our new sound is ‘ng’

I hope you enjoyed the Picnic on Pluto game on Phonics Play. Have another go today. Follow the link. Click start and then choose Phase 3, then click on today’s new sound +ng.

https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/resources/phase/3/picnic-on-pluto

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zvq9bdm/articles/z6bkbdm

Now have a go at reading some sentences. Again click on the link and click start. Click next in the bottom right and click on today’s sound ‘ng’.

https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/resources/phase/3/sentences-3

Remember there is no need to print this, you can simply point out the correct picture to match a word. Ask an adult (or big brother or sister) to check. Then have a go at writing labels for the other pictures. Remember to listen carefully to the sounds in the words.

FS1 Watch this video

Can you sing along?! It’s tricky isn’t it? What do you notice about the sounds in the words you are saying? Can you think of any other words that start with ‘p’? Have a look around your house and garden to see what you can find. Perhaps you could even put on your favourite song and make your own song and dance with lots of ‘p’ sounds!

Have a go at Super Smoothie on Phonics Play. Phonics play is free to access throughout Lockdown. Log in using jan21 and home.

https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/resources/phase/1/super-smoothie

Maths

FS2 today in maths we are exploring one more within 10.

https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/exploring-one-more-within-10-74v3cc

Using digit cards 1-20 or 1-10, whichever is appropriate for your child, have a go at the following game.

Or try one of the following activities.

FS1 Remember the number of the week this week is number 1. Why not watch the video again.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b08bzzns/numberblocks-series-1-one

Have a toy picnic. Give each toy 1 plate, 1 cup, 1 spoon maybe even 1 bun!

https://www.topmarks.co.uk/learning-to-count/underwater-counting

Expressive Arts: Music

Watch the video and join in with the songs. Let me know if you enjoy this and what your favourite part is.

https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/out-in-my-neighbourhood-c8up6e?step=1&activity=video

Physical Development

Why not have a go at one of the activities posted yesterday. You could try a different one today.

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is image-33.png

Remember to keep sending in those photos and videos.

Enjoy your day and have fun.

Mrs Atkinson

Monday 11th January

Welcome to week 2. I hope you all had a great weekend and a good rest. You did lots of amazing work on Friday. Well done!

The children in school had a great time completing their activities.

Lots of great phonics work. I am so impressed!

Fantastic winter trees. I think you like getting messy!

And lots of other activities too: reading, phonics soup, winter walks and making bird feeders.

Week 2

For Foundation Stage 2, this week I will be adding a phonics activity, a maths activity, and another activity and next week I will add an English activity too. This follows what would be a typical day of learning in school for your child in addition to opportunities they would have to learn in the on going provision. Each session should last no more than 20 – 30 minutes. Please remember there is a selection of activities and there is no expectation that you complete them all. Whatever you choose to do, please spread the activities out giving your child a break and time to play in between.

For Foundation Stage 1, I will add a phonics activity and a maths activity each day. There will also be additional activities you can have a go at which will help with specific areas of learning. Again, there is no expectation to complete everything but please have a go at something every day if you can to help your child continue their learning experience.

Phonics

Our first activity today is phonics and we have a new sound, ‘th’.

Have a go at Picnic on Pluto on Phonics Play. Phonics play is free to access throughout Lockdown. Log in using March 20 and Home.

The children are familiar with this game and love it when the alien makes ‘rude’ noises! Follow the link. Click start and then choose Phase 3, then click on today’s new sound +th. The game will then use a mix of sounds the children have learnt so far. Some of the words will be ‘fake’ words. It is really important that the children can blend both real and fake words and don’t try to make them ‘real’. The purpose is to blend the sounds together.

https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/resources/phase/3/picnic-on-pluto

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zvq9bdm/articles/zk6f6v4

Now have a go at reading some sentences. Again click on the link and click start. Click next in the bottom right and click on today’s sound ‘th’. The sentences use the sounds and tricky words so far. It is important that the children can read sentences and understand that a sentence is a group of words. Talk about the capital letter at the beginning and the full stop at the end. Also talk about the finger spaces between the words. They also need to understand what a words is, it is made up of sounds. We also count the number of words in a sentence. This helps when they are writing as well.

https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/resources/phase/3/sentences-3

Phonics play has lots of games to help practise phonics so feel free to explore.

Foundation Stage 1 have a look at the video below.

Why not make your own binoculars like Maddison and Felix then go for a hunt around the house looking for objects which have the same initial sound.

FS2 you could make binoculars and hunt for objects which have the ‘th’ sound. Happy hunting!

Mathematics

FS2 This week for maths we are going to look at videos from the Oak Academy, followed by some suggested activities. Please don’t feel you need to do everything but if you and your child feel you want to continue to practise the learning for the day the have a go at one or more.

https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/counting-up-to-10-objects-reliably-ccw32e

FS1 Each week we will focus on a number.

Number of the week : 1 This week we will be learning all about the number 1. Watch this video to get started.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b08bzzns/numberblocks-series-1-one

Why not play board games that need a dice (snakes and ladders, Ludo etc). Practise your careful counting each time it is your turn or play a counting game.

https://www.topmarks.co.uk/learning-to-count/gingerbread-man-game

Health and Self Care

For our next activity, we are going to be thinking about how we keep ourselves clean. FS1, you can have a look at this too and talk about what you need to do. If you want to complete the activity, that’s great and don’t forget to share it with me. FS2, you could have a go at completing the activity and adding labels using your phonics.

https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/squeaky-clean-68r3ct

Physical Development

It is really important for both FS1 and FS2 to develop their fine motor skills. Why not have a go at some fun activities to help.

I really do love to see what you have been doing so don’t forget to share it with me on either Evidence Me or the class email fsbrandesburton@gmail.com

Have a great day and remember to have fun!

Mrs Atkinson

Friday 8th January

Good morning Foundation Stage. What another amazing day of home learning yesterday!

In school we had a very wintery walk, did some great maths, english and phonics work and made a cosy den.

Foundation Stage, you did some amazing things! There was some great phonics work, identifying zero, finding numbers and lots of other things. Oh, and I absolutely love your dens!

https://vimeo.com/498093129

FS2 today we are learning a new sound, ‘sh’. Mr Mc is here again to help you practise the sounds you already know and learn the new sound. Get your singing voices ready……

Now have a go at some activities. Play I spy, how many words can you find with the ‘sh’ sound in it? Is the ‘sh’ at the beginning, middle or end? Can you have a go at writing the word?

Below is a list of ‘sh’and ‘ch words. Say the word to your child, sound it out and ask them to have a go at writing it.

For the next activity, rather than drawing a line, just find the picture which matches the word. Then have a go at writing the label for the other pictures.

This last challenge is quite a tricky one! You might want to do it with or without the time challenge.

FS1 have a go at one or both of the phonics activities.

Remember to draw a picture of your soup and objects or take a photograph so I can see what you did.

When you were out on your winter walk I am sure you saw lots of winter trees. Today for your second challenge, I would like you to create a picture of a winter tree. There are some examples below. You could have a go at creating one of these or making your own. The pictures show lots of different ways to create pictures including hand and finger prints, twigs and cotton bud prints, cotton wool and twisted paper. I wonder how you will create yours? I can’t wait to see!
