I do hope you had a lovely weekend and took some time to do the things you enjoy. Today we have some phonics, no new sounds just practising what you have learnt so far. Then we have some maths, transferring your knowledge in to some problems. I have introduced some English today, reading a story and talking about it and finally after all that hard work, time to get active with some PE!

FS2 I have put together some packs to help with the phonics practice this week. There will be a text sent to you today with details of when you can come to school to pick it up.

First, lets have a look at your great efforts on Friday.

Phonics

FS2

There are no new sounds this week. We covered lots last week and there were lots of activities to do, so this week we are going to consolidate our learning. You can go back to the videos and watch Mr Mc again if you choose to, choose activities you enjoyed or have a go at those you didn’t manage to do. Each day I will post a selection of alternative activities for you to have a go at to practise and consolidate your learning from last week.

Parents, don’t feel you have to play different games each day. If you find a game your child likes and it can be adapted for different things eg tricky words, sounds, blending words with new sounds, then please use and repeat. Each time a new game is introduced, children need to learn to play the game which takes away from their phonics learning. The more familiar they are with how a game or activity works, the more they can concentrate on their phonics so please don’t feel that repetition is boring, it definitely isn’t!

It is important to recap all of your sounds every day so you can use Mr Mc or go to Phonics Play to do this. Click start and then pick individual graphemes. Choose ‘ee’ from set 9. How many can you get in one minute? Can you beat your score. The children are familiar with this game.

Today choose the game you want to play to practise blending. You can play Buried Treasure, Picnic on Pluto or Dragons Den or you could even play all 3! Can you beat your score? Click on the link and choose your game. Click start and then choose Phase 3, then click on the sound +ee. This will ensure all sounds learnt so far are included.

Now practise reading sentences. Again click on the link and click start. Click next in the bottom right and click on the sound ‘ee’ to include all the sounds you have learnt so far.

You could try some of the following ideas:

These are really easy games to play. You could use words containing the sounds you are practising (see the word lists on the blog previously (Friday 8th and Thursday 14th), tricky words or sounds.

You could even find something to splat with eg fly swatters!

FS1 Grown ups – Oral blending in Phase 1 of phonics doesn’t require any knowledge of letters. It is the children’s listening skills that are developing before the introduction of letters. So you are saying the sounds and the children are listening and responding. It can be tricky for the children at first, so you may need to make it really obvious! Have a look at this video for examples of oral blending in action, then choose one of the games to have a go at

Mathematics

FS2 I know last week you did really well, recognising numbers and ordering them to 10 or 20 and comparing them. This week we are going to try solving some problems involving numbers by: Applying knowledge of numbers in 10 to solve mathematical problems. Have a look at the video. Remember to listen carefully and try to explain how you know.

Don’t feel you need to do them all. When you have had a go can you explain to someone else how you know? Can you explain how you found the answer? You could use 20 if you want a challenge. An even bigger challenge is to use any number up to 20. Let me know how you get on.

FS1 Number of the week : 2 This week we will be learning all about the number 2. Watch this video to get started.

Can you find 2?

English

Today I would like you to have a look at ‘Stick Man’ by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler. If you have the book, you could read it together. Alternatively follow the link to watch it on iplayer. Please read the notes below to support with your discussions as you read or listen to the story.

Physical Development

I’d like you to get moving today. You can either do some ‘Frozen’ yoga or be a bit more energetic with the Body Coach’s 5 minute work out.
